You have to do this
Do you own a truck? Then you need to take action before truck toll starts. Make sure you are prepared on time. The truck toll is planned to start on 1 July 2026.
Try to find out how the truck toll will affect your business, and how you can deal with that. Such as the consequences for your finances or administration.
See You will pay this amount for more information on the truck toll you will pay.
Ask for help, for example from:
- a (financial) adviser
- an interest party or trade association
- the supplier of your transport management system (TMS)
To pay truck toll, you will need a provider who handles this for you. Your provider also supplies the on-board equipment that trucks will be required to carry. This is called on-board unit or OBU.
You are free to choose the truck charge payment service provider. For example, consider:
- In which countries does the service provider operate?
- What additional features does the service provider offer? And how much do they cost?
You already have a payment for other countries
Do you already have a toll payment service provider for another European country? Then ask your provider whether you can have the contract adjusted to include truck toll in the Netherlands. Also ask what arrangements are involved.
OBU from Satellic and Toll Collect not usable in the Netherlands
Are you a customer of Satellic in Belgium or Toll Collect in Germany? Then you cannot use their OBU in the Netherlands. Please choose one of the providers that will be listed on the Truck toll payment providers page after the summer.
More information
Your toll payment service provider will provide you with an OBU .
- Make sure you install the OBU behind the windscreen of your truck before the day the truck charge starts. This is quick and easy to do. The included manual explains exactly how to do it.
- From that day onwards, only trucks with a working OBU are allowed on the road.
OBU always on in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, the OBU must always be on. So even if you drive on roads where no truck charge applies. This is different from other countries. In the Netherlands, the OBU only doesn’t need to be switched on when the truck is parked.
More information
Is your truck 40 years or older? If so, you may apply for a dispensation. Police and fire trucks can also get a dispensation.
Some other trucks may have an exemption: For example, electric trucks and vans up to 4,250 kg.
Check for yourself for which trucks you can apply for a dispensation and which trucks are exempted. Read more about it on our Dispensation and Exemption page.
Part of the money from the truck toll goes to subsidies. Subsidies that are provided to entrepreneurs and non-profit organisations established in the Netherlands. The subsidies are aimed at making road freight transport more sustainable and efficient.
