Truck toll in the Netherlands

The truck toll in the Netherlands starts on 1 July 2026. From that date, truck owners will pay per kilometre driven. This will apply to almost all motorways and to certain provincial and municipal roads. The cleaner and lighter the vehicle, the lower the rate per kilometre. After the start of truck toll, the Dutch motor vehicle tax for trucks up to 12,000 kilos will be abolished. For trucks of 12,000 kilos and heavier, the Dutch motor vehicle tax will be significantly reduced. The Eurovignette for the Netherlands will end on July 1, 2026.

Choose a provider

Once the truck toll comes into effect, all trucks in the Netherlands will need a valid OBU. Several providers supply these OBUs, each with different offers, terms, and conditions. Make sure you choose a provider in good time to ensure you receive your OBU in time.

You will pay this amount

The truck toll means that you pay an amount per kilometre driven. To determine how much you will have to pay, you need this information: the technical maximum mass, the CO2 emission class and sometimes the euro emission class.

Apply for a dispensation

For trucks that are 40 years or older, you may be able to apply for a dispensation. The requirement is that you use the truck only for private purposes. Police and fire vehicles can also get a dispensation.
