Control of truck toll
The government will check whether truck owners pay the truck toll. This is done through different types of controls. Those who don't follow the rules, will get a fine.
How do we check?
- In fixed locations, with cameras above the road, for example.
- With devices we can move around.
Tracing owners with unpaid fines
Has a fine not been paid? Then the licence plate of the truck linked to the unpaid fine will be placed on an alert list. If a roadside camera detects a licence plate from that list, a signal will be sent to inspectors patrolling in the Netherlands. They can then trace and stop the driver linked to the unpaid fine. If this happens, the driver may only continue the journey once the fine has been paid.
Situations where you may be fined
From the start of the truck toll, you may receive a fine in the following situations. During the first six months, the fine will be half the normal amount.
- You don't have a contract with a provider of payment services for the payment of truck toll in the Netherlands.
Fine: €800.00 (until 01/01/2027: €400.00) - You are driving with an OBU turned off.
Fine: €500.00 (until 01/01/2027: €250.00) - You are driving with an OBU that is not working (properly).
Fine: €500.00 (until 01/01/2027: €250.00) - You are driving with an OBU that belongs to another truck.
Fine: €500.00 (until 01/01/2027: €250.00)
You can receive a maximum of one fine within a 24-hour period. If you commit more than one offence within 24 hours, you will only be fined for the offence with the highest fine amount.
