What will change?

You will need a contract with a service provider to pay truck toll. This service provider will also supply you with the on-board unit (OBU). You are free to choose a service provider. 

You already have a service provider for other countries 

Do you already have a service provider for another European country? Check whether they will also offer their services in the Netherlands. If so, you can pay truck toll in the Netherlands through the same provider.  

OBUs from Satellic and Toll Collect not usable in the Netherlands
Are you a customer of Satellic in Belgium or Toll Collect in Germany? Then you cannot use the OBU from these providers in the Netherlands. Choose one of the providers that will be listed on the webpage Providers truck toll after the summer.

Truck owners must have a contract with a toll payment service provider. And trucks must always have a working OBU on board. OBU is short for on-board unit. It is also called toll box. 

• As soon as truck toll is in place, only trucks with a working OBU are allowed on the road.  
• In the Netherlands, the OBU must always be on. This is different from other countries.

No more Dutch motor vehicle tax (mrb) for N2 type trucks. These are trucks up to 12,000 kg. The mrb for N3 type trucks will be much lower. These are trucks heavier than 12,000 kg.

• Check your vehicle type via the registration number check. At the letter J you find the vehicle type. 
• Information about how much you will pay. This also includes the motor vehicle tax (mrb) amounts that apply from the start of the truck toll.

 

At the start of truck toll, the Eurovignette will be discontinued in the Netherlands. The Eurovignette will still be needed for Sweden and Luxembourg. For more information on ending the Eurovignette in the Netherlands, go to:

A large part of the revenues from truck toll goes to subsidies. These subsidies are intended for businesses and non-profit organisations established in the Netherlands. These subsidies are aimed at making road freight transport more sustainable and efficient.  

Application for dispensation  

In some cases, you may apply for a dispensation from truck toll. For example, if a truck is 40 years or older. Police and fire trucks also have a dispensation.  

Exemptions  

Certain trucks are exempt from truck toll. For example, electric vans up to 4,250 kg.  

Does your truck have a Dutch registration number? You get the exemption automatically. You don't have to do anything.  

Does your truck have a registration number from a European country other than the Netherlands? Check whether you can apply for exemption.
