Everything about the OBU

To pay truck toll, you will need a provider who handles this for you. Your provider also supplies the on-board equipment that trucks will be required to carry. This is also called on-board unit (OBU) or toll box. The OBU tracks how many kilometres a truck travels on roads where the truck charge applies. Every truck must have one on board.

OBU always on

The OBU should always be on, even on roads where there is no truck toll. This is different from other countries.

Exceptions

  • The OBU does not need to be on when the truck is parked.
  • Does the truck have a dispensation or exemption? If so, it does not need an OBU.
