Toll4Europe approved as service provider for the truck toll
The RDW has approved Toll4Europe as a service provider for the truck toll in the Netherlands. From 1 July, truck owners will be able to use onboard units provided by this EETS (European Electronic Toll Service) provider to pay the truck toll. The approval follows the RDW’s conclusion that Toll4Europe meets all the requirements regarding reliability, data protection and the operation of its systems.
Alongside Telepass and TotalEnergies, Toll4Europe is the third EETS provider to be approved by the RDW for the truck toll in the Netherlands. Axxès, Eurowag and Tolltickets are currently finalising the approval procedure. Many companies are already familiar with these providers. For example, for toll systems in other European countries or other services they offer, such as fuel cards. In addition to EETS providers, NedLinq offers onboard units that work only in the Netherlands. Many owners have already signed a contract and installed an onboard unit in their trucks. Owners who have not yet made the necessary preparations are advised to take action soon to avoid fines.
Admission procedure
Before an EETS provider is approved, they undergo a comprehensive admission procedure with the RDW. Factors taken into account include the technology used in the onboard unit, data security and financial reliability. A provider may only be authorised to offer its services for the Dutch truck toll after successful completion.
“It is important that we are certain service providers meet all the requirements. We want a system that works reliably, so that the truck toll can be collected correctly and the onboard units function properly. This will help avoid issues once the system is live. Toll4Europe have demonstrated that they meet our requirements. We are delighted that they can now offer their services for the truck toll in the Netherlands as well.”, said Jan Strijk, Director of Toll Collection at the RDW.
Preparations for the introduction of the truck toll
The truck toll will start in the Netherlands on 1 July. Truck owners will pay per kilometre from that date. This applies to both Dutch and foreign vehicles with a technical maximum mass of over 3,500 kg (categories N2 and N3). A large part of the revenue is used to subsidise electric trucks and charging infrastructure.
