Eurowag starts admission process for truck toll in the Netherlands
In early December, Czech EETS provider Eurowag signed an EETS (European Electronic Toll Service) agreement with the RDW. This makes Eurowag the sixth party to start the process of becoming an authorised service provider for truck toll in the Netherlands. Both the RDW and Eurowag are pleased with this important step towards the introduction of the truck toll in the Netherlands on 1 July 2026.
International services
Eurowag further expands the range of service providers for the truck toll in the Netherlands. EETS providers allow carriers to pay tolls throughout Europe using a single on-board unit, without having to use a separate system for each country. The expansion contributes to the smooth introduction of the truck toll.
Greater freedom of choice
The RDW welcomes Eurowag as a new candidate service provider. "With every new party that starts the admission process, we increase the freedom of choice for truck owners," says Jan Strijk, Toll Collection Director at the RDW. “This allows truck owners to choose the party that best suits their situation. We are confident that Eurowag will successfully complete the admission process.”
Eurowag’s response
“Partnering with RDW’s enlarging coverage of seamless tolling services in the Netherlands will allow Eurowag to expand our total of licensed countries to 14, generating additional important value for our commercial road transport customers,” says CEO and founder Martin Vohánka. “We look forward to successful implementation to drive European road transport towards a fair, clean and efficient future.”
Reliability as a priority
During the admission process, the RDW assesses whether the providers meet all the requirements laid down in the European EETS Directive. This provides truck owners with the assurance that they can rely on dependable services and equipment. In addition to Eurowag, AEurowages, Telepass, Toll4Europe, tolltickets and TotalEnergies have also started the admission process.
About the truck toll
The truck toll will come into effect in the Netherlands on 1 July 2026. From that date onwards, truck owners will pay per kilometre on almost all highways and some provincial and municipal roads. The cleaner and lighter the vehicle, the lower the amount per kilometre. The toll applies to Dutch and foreign vehicles in categories N2 and N3. Following the launch of the truck toll, motor vehicle tax will disappear for trucks up to 12,000 kilograms. Motor vehicle tax for trucks weighing 12,000 kilograms or more will be significantly reduced. The Eurovignette for the Netherlands will end on 1 July 2026. A large part of the revenue from the truck toll is used to fund subsidies for sustainability measures. For example, for buying electric trucks and charging stations.
